Stagecraft III Project, Freshman Year at the Gainesville Theatre Alliance,
Hand-and-a-Half Sword, Used in Macbeth
Created under the direction of Larry Cook.
- This is the blank of the sword after running it in a band saw to get the blade/tang’s shape. It is made of aluminum, and started as a rectangle.
- I put an edge on it! In the finished product, the edge was refined.
- If I had decided to make a fuller, I would have used this sword blank. I helped a friend route out the fuller, as shown here. (The more complete version of his sword can be seen in the picture “Handle Glued”)
- The quillion’s blank.
- I am making the place to connect the Quillion with the tang of the sword.
- The quillion is taking shape.
- This is the pommel’s blank.
- Drilling through and countersinking the pommel.
- This is a detailed view of the pommel assembly.
- This is the piece of wood before cutting/making the indents for the tang.
- After cutting the wood in half and cutting/rasping out two tang sized indents, I am letting the glue dry.
- I marked these lines to know how far down to rasp/file/sand my handle.
- Making sure the handle fits is important.
- I have finished the rasping/filing/sanding of the handle.
- This is a view of the freshly completed project.
- Me holding the sword for scale.
- Another, closer view of the sword in the finished form.
- Having some fun with the finished product.
- Another, closer view of the sword in the finished form.
